Two of My Favorite Dramatic Unposed Long Island Wedding Photos

Shooting dramatic unposed Long Island wedding photo opportunities is like finding treasure. The photo above was shot with a simple on-camera flash during the bride and groom’s reception. The dark background helped isolate the wedding couple, eliminate distractions, and add drama. One key to getting these kind of great wedding photos is to remain vigilant and ready to capture these moments. This was also the first time I shot the traditional dip and kiss wedding photo from this angle, and something I might not of considered had it not happened so spontaneously.

Here’s another photograph of the same couple. During these type of organic wedding photo moments, I often say to myself, “Quick Dan, get the shot!” Fortunately, with years of editorial, commercial, and wedding photography experience, I’m able to capture fleeting, photojournalistic wedding photos quickly. And at the same time, I’m also addressing technical considerations, too. That’s part of what makes getting great Long Island wedding photos so satisfying—the challenges!
