Is November Too Cold to Get Married on Long Island?

As a Long Island wedding photographer, I recommend getting married no later than the first week of November. After the third week of October the weather is often too cold for spending a lot of time outside. However, if you’re like the the bride and groom in the photo above, and aren’t fazed by temperatures below 40°F—then a late November wedding might be perfect! Plus, wedding venues will charge you less for getting married during colder months.

Average Long Island November Temperatures and Weather Info

Average Long Island November temperatures range from 54°F during the day at the beginning of the month to 43°F by the end of the month. Earlier in the day and at night the temperatures can drop another 15°F or so.

10 Wedding Tips for Getting Married on Long Island in November

  1. Check the weather forecast (pretty obvious, I know)

  2. Make sure your wedding venue gives you off-season pricing!

  3. Consider giving your brides and family members pashmina shawls to help keep warm

  4. Ask your wedding venue if they have outdoor propane heaters to keep you and your guest warm during any outdoor photo sessions

  5. Look for wedding venues and other locations that don’t involve a lot of walking

  6. Try to find wedding venues with skylights and floor to ceiling windows for taking indoor photos with outdoor views—this applies to daytime weddings primarily

  7. Remember that the days will be shorter in November and December

  8. Consider combining your normal Thanksgiving family gathering with your wedding festivities!

  9. Have fun with winter or Thanksgiving-themed decoration ideas

  10. Wear thermal undies :) — wedding venues with fireplaces are great for after reception relaxing

My friend recommended Dan to my husband and I, and we could not have been happier. Dan is calm, cool, and professional. I have a large Italian Family, and my husband has a large Irish Family. Dan was able to gather all of us for pictures, followed lists we had previously prepared, and did not miss one minute of our special day.”
