This 10 Best Long Island Wedding Florists list will help you spend your flower budget wisely. As with anything desirable in life, brides and grooms owe it to themselves to compare the pros and cons of their florist, venue, makeup artist, photographer and other important wedding vendors. So, to maximize the usefulness of my Long Island Wedding Blog, I’ve decided to create a series of blog articles designed to make your vendor comparison searches easier, faster, and more informative. Being somewhat of a shopaholic myself, I’m an expert at separating the wheat from the chaff—in other words this blog can help you avoid the worst fate known to mankind—buyer’s remorse!

This list features florists close to Huntington, NY, because most of the Long Island weddings I photograph are within an hour drive from my Huntington office. I figure it’s easier to work with wedding vendors closest to where you’re getting married and having your reception. Please feel free to let me know if I haven’t included your favorite florist, so I can add them to this list. By the way, please don’t judge the florists by the bouquets shown below—check out their website links for a better sampling. Also, the bouquets below are screenshots from the florist’s website and/or Instagram. Thank you!

Use the wedding florist’s email addresses for information and pricing requests!

Note: Any best list is subjective. Just because I haven’t included a florist on this list, doesn’t mean they’re not one of the best. A few of the florists on this 10 best list provide contact forms instead of an email address. If you decide to use them, make sure you get their email address so you have an easier way to reach them on the days leading up to your wedding, and on the day of your wedding.

How Much Will My Wedding Flowers Cost?

On Long Island, and elsewhere, your bouquet, bridesmaid bouquets, mom corsages, boutonnieres, centerpieces, and floral decorations can add up to a costly sum. Finding out the true average florist expenditure is probably impossible. The best thing I was able to come up was a range from $500 to over $5,000. One wedding I photographed at a venue located on a New York City pier required the bride and groom to use a pre-approved florist who charged $10,000! Spending within your comfort zone, and not feeling pressured to overspend is a sensible way to plan your wedding.

Take your bouquet for example. While you might be tempted to spend $300 or more on your bouquet, it’s important to remember that more expensive bouquets are often larger, heavier, and thicker in the stem area. Sure they look beautiful—and if you love it, go for it! Just remember that carrying a large, heavy bouquet can be tiring. I’ve put together an approximate cost range for flowers below. Naturally, it’s easy to spend less or more, and be equally satisfied.

Wedding Bouquet, Corsage, Boutonniere, Centerpiece and Decoration Costs

  1. Bridal bouquets often range from $150 to $300

  2. Bridesmaid bouquets $75 to $150

  3. Wrist corsages start at $30

  4. Boutonnieres start at $25

  5. Flower girl petals start around $20

  6. Centerpieces can range from $100 to $500 and up

  7. Floral decorations can cost as much as you’re willing to spend

  8. Optional for many, cake flowers, head table, sweetheart table, guest book table, flower crowns, and ceremony structures all come at an added cost

From my perspective as a Long Island wedding photographer, I suggest getting a bridal bouquet, and a groom’s boutonniere that you’re really happy with. The reason for this is that many of your “hero” photos, and photos that will be used if you decide to get a wedding album, will feature your bouquet, and the groom’s boutonniere. They will probably be the flowers you remember the most.

Please scroll to the bottom of the page for advice on how to dry your bouquet after your wedding so it may last for years as a keepsake.

  3. Reduce stem variety so your florist can save money by buying in bulk

  4. Reuse your ceremony flowers for your cocktail hour and reception

  5. Consider using a non-floral centerpiece

5 Tips for Long Island Wedding Flower Photography

  1. Freshness—bride, bridesmaids, bouquets and mother-of-the-bride flowers should be delivered to the getting ready location before the photographer arrives. If the photographer’s day starts at the ceremony location, then the flowers could still arrive at the getting ready location if needed for any reason.

  2. Photos—take photos of the bride’s bouquet with the wedding invitation.

  3. Boutonnieres—for the guys should be delivered to the men’s getting ready location as needed.

  4. Cold—keep the flowers cool so they will stay fresh longer. Also ask your florist for flower freshness additives.

  5. In general—bouquets should be held at bellybutton height.

Long Island Wedding Life Tip

Life’s too short to sweat the small stuff. I remember a Long Island wedding with 800 guests I photographed a while back. The bride and groom had 80 wedding tables with ten guests per table. Each table centerpiece was supposed to have 24 roses. Unfortunately, the wedding planner signed off on the flowers when they were delivered without counting the number of roses. Evidently, many of the centerpieces had as few as 20 roses. Upset, the bride contacted a local television station, and had their Shame On You reporter do a story about her rose shortchanging.

Allegedly, she hadn’t bothered to contact her wedding florist to work out a solution first. I found out about the tv show report when my wedding album manufacturer told me he’d seen my photos on the news. Turns out the bride had given the photos to the tv station. If this is the worst thing that happens at an 800-guest wedding, then my advice is try not to sweat the small stuff. If it were me, I would’ve been mad at her limo company for arriving late, without directions, with an empty tank of gas, and for breaking down on the way to the reception! Hey, if you’re a Long Island wedding photographer, sooner or later you’ll see it all!

“Dan Wagner was the best money spent on our wedding. He was nice, professional and did a great job. He took great candid photos—which I love. Not only did we get every picture he took, but the photos were full size and without any writing on them, and they arrived just a few days after we came back home from our honeymoon. We got to choose many pictures for our album. Because everything was digital, he e-mailed me exactly what the layout of the album would be before it was printed, and I was able to make changes. Our album was the nicest I have seen, and everyone who has seen it wishes they had hired him.”

How Do You Dry and Preserve a Wedding Bouquet to Last Years?

The recommended procedure for preserving your wedding bouquet so it can last a long time is to secure the stem area with a rubber band or twine, and hang it upside down in a dark, dry room for 2 to 3 weeks. Storing in a dark room will help your flowers retain their color. For larger bouquets, drying time may take longer. Some florists recommend taking the bouquet apart so the flowers can dry in smaller bunches.
